REPRINTS AND PERMISSIONS POLICIES

The following policy statements are guidelines only. The Federation Press reserves the right to refuse permission to reproduce a work or part thereof, and to charge any fee deemed appropriate in a particular case. The Federation Press also reserves the right to review its permission policies at any time.

Attribution and Usage

Reproduction, posting, transmission or other distribution or use of the work or any material therein, in any medium, requires credit to The Federation Press as copyright holder (eg © 2008 The Federation Press).

Version and moral rights

In all cases, the reproduced work must be the final edited and formatted version which appears in the published Federation Press book or journal.

Moral rights of the author must be upheld at all times. Permission to reproduce material is provided on the basis that the reproduction of the work will not infringe the moral rights of the originating author, that the creator of the original work is recognised as the creator of that work and that there will be no derogatory treatment of that work.

Subsequent publication

Subsequent publication is not authorised, that is, permission granted cannot be transferred, licensed or assigned. Permission to use material beyond that initially granted must be sought as a new permission.

Images

Please note that Federation Press does not hold the rights for images which appear in Federation Press publications. You must request permission to reproduce these from the original source.

Abstracts online

Permission is not required to post abstracts for books, chapters of books, and journal articles online, provided:

  • publication details are provided in full, with correct copyright attribution
  • a link to the relevant page of The Federation Press website is included
  • on posting, The Federation Press is sent an email with the abstract’s URL.

Full text journal articles and book chapters online

The full text of a journal article or chapter in a contributed book may not be posted online without permission in writing from The Federation Press. Where permission is granted, the following restrictions apply:

  • an embargo period of 24 months from date of publication is observed
  • the version used is the final edited and formatted version as published by The Federation Press
  • the publisher and source is cited and acknowledged
  • a link to the relevant page of The Federation Press website is included
  • on posting, The Federation Press is sent an email with the work’s URL.

Other restrictions and a fee may also be applied, as determined on a case-by-case basis.

Institutional Repositories - The Federation Press permits authors to deposit full text journal articles and book chapters in the repositories of institutions at which they are employed, subject to certain restrictions. Permission granted to an author is not assignable to their employing institution, and is never granted in perpetuity.

Institution requests for permission to reproduce journal articles and book chapters are regarded as third party requests by commercial entities, whether the institution charges a fee for access to the reproduction or not.

Institutions seeking permission to reproduce an article in perpetuity will be charged a permissions fee.

Subject Repositories (eg SSRN) - Subject repositories are treated the same way as institutional repositories, and assessed on their merits.

The Social Sciences Research Network (SSRN) only allows posting by authors. Authors wishing to post material on SSRN should read The Federation Press’s Rights and Permissions Policy for Authors (available from your commissioning editor) before requesting permission to post material to SSRN and related networks.

Books

Books may not be reproduced online, in part or in whole, without written permission from The Federation Press. Where permission is granted, a fee may also apply.

Currency statement - policies last revised in August 2008.
